Pintado grabs a hat-trick - Chris Wathan, Western Mail

GORKA Pintado wasted little time in settling into life as a Swan as the Spanish striker bagged a first-half hat-trick in a 6-0 pre-season win over Swedish side Östersunds FK.

The summer signing from Granada, known as El Toro, grabbed a debut treble inside 32 minutes as Roberto Martinez’s side got their first taste of action in the build-up to the new season.

And he was joined on the scoresheet by fellow new boy Mark Gower, the former Southend man netting after Guillem Bauza had notched a second-half brace.

There was an injury scare when Marcos Painter was taken to hospital after suffering a broken nose in the final two minutes of the clash, played as part of the side’s week-long fitness and team bonding camp in Scandinavia.

But boss Martinez, who saw all of his new arrivals pull on a Swans shirt for the first time, insisted he was pleased with the run out.

“It was a very pleasing exercise,” said the Spaniard, who was without Angel Rangel and Jason Scotland after the pair both underwent recent operations, while Dennis Lawrence nursed a knee injury and Bodde remained in Holland.

“We have trained very hard but this was our first 11 against 11 and it was tremendous to see the attitude of the players.

“They have been training four times a day,” he revealed. “We have 24-hour sunlight here and are at altitude so that helps us achieve the fitness levels we want.”

OFK had little chance against Swansea as all had expected. A large part of the team had gone on holiday and a number of juniors and a few borrowed players were on show.

Swansea had introduced new strikers and OFK had to run and defend. It was a entertaining match with many fine combinations.

Unfortunately, this was never going to be an exiting contest as Swansea were by far the superior side. After only 3 minutes new striker Pintado (nicknamed El Toro) intercept a failed back pass and make 1-0.

Pintado showed good running and movement, after just half an hour, he had scored two further goals. Tonight's man of the match!

In the second half Swansea had almost a completely whole new team. Replacing Pintado was another Spaniard up front. Bauza showed good movement and scored two further goals.

The final goal was a lob over Viktor Hansson in OFK's goal (Viktor and Lennart Sandahl had a half each).

The third goal was scored by another recent acquisition, Mark Gower. Gower was one of the hardest workers of the night and was rewarded with a goal when he turned a defender and easily slotted the ball into the goal.

OFK's managed fine efforts from Benny Mico and Lasse Oscarsson. Both showed up well, especially Lasse was one of the few who, in some situations that matched the opponents. Among youngster, Juan Olsson played well in midfield in the second half.

Now the Championship and the Swedish div-1 play two very different games. It turned out quickly even though it was a friendly, with an emphasis on friendship (although Alan al-Kahdi lost his temper following the stamping of a Swansea player).

Swansea were stronger and faster and had a faster passing game. Something "typically" English in the game was beyond dispute. It will be exciting to see how the team progress when the series begin at the beginning of August.
