From: Mouthful of Lead - MOLlywood - Wednesday, April 11 Re: United Colours of Football |
|
The circulation of the free 'United Colours of Football'
magazine in Wales was an undoubted success. Fans distributed over 600
magazines from League of Wales grounds to Swansea's Vetch Field.
The overall response -particularly in the League of Wales- was encouraging; and this showed that fans were enthusiastic to measures that helped the fight against racism in football. Importantly, most clubs were also keen to work with this project. LofW clubs gave them away at the turnstiles, and Swansea City pledged to publish articles from the magazine in their matchday programme. Watch that space. On behalf of FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) and Kick It! I would like to thank those that helped, and offered to help in the distribution. Finally, those who have expressed boredom at this thread may or may not like to know that last night's meeting of the racist BNP in Swansea was attended by Swansea 'fans' well known to us all. Those who have become shameful apologists of -and befriended- one individual might like to realign their thoughts after his sneering face was seen on the BBC last night. Never have the initials SS been so apt. So it's goodbye to this forum from me finally. Thanks for putting up with my demented rambling over the years, which must have seemed like the mad bloke at the end of 'Invasion of the Bodysnatchers'. All the best for the future -whatever that may be....though it will be about as appetising as cat turd custard if these clowns are still holding the keys. Raise the pressure. |

From: Barry Roberts - Cwmdu, Swansea - Wednesday, April 11 Re: Sunday Times Article |
|
Things have been worse...... (marginally!). I picked this up
from the Sunday Times Business Editorial this week re a company called
Autonomy. Transcribed word for word..
"And Finally .... Five weeks ago we apologised to Joe Royle for comparing his likeable but almost useless Manchester City with Mike Lynch's Autonomy. Like an analyst downgrading earnings, we concluded that Autonomy had more in common with the likeable but totally useless Bradford City. Wrong again. Friday's profit warning from Autonomy, which saw the shares close 41% down on the day, has sent us scurrying to the record books in search of a suitable football precedent and we believe that we have now sorted out the matter once and for all. In the same way that Autonomy emerged from nowhere to claim FTSE 100 status, Swansea City moved from the old fourth to first division in a glorious five year period starting in 1977 before slipping back three divisions in four years. Autonomy is Swansea City in disguise - and that's final." |

From: andy reilly - swansea - Tuesday, April 10 Re: Colin Jones's posting |
| I agree with many of the points made by Colin, but it's not only the bank rolled clubs that achieve a semblance of success. Well run clubs, with professionals at the helm, using sound business practices can also achieve, even in today's money driven environment. Our role model should be Ipswich, a town with a smaller potential support to draw on than Swansea. They have spent modest sums of money, unlike Swansea, and have worked hard on developing youth, putting emphasis more on quality than quantity. They have also been prepared to sell wisely and to invest the proceeds back into the club. There are other examples, such as Charlton, who can also show us what's possible without having a multi millionaire backer. One thing that most of these clubs do have, and that's stable management led by someone with a long association with the club. I also agree with Colin's comments about Swansea council - but when they can't even keep our roads free of three foot deep pot-holes what chance a 'vision for the future'. |

From: T.H - Swansea - Tuesday, April 10 Re: Chesterfield |
| Regarding Chesterfield, i'd have thought that the easier thing to do, if the FA did take action would be to move all the teams in the 3rd division up one place, therefore, 4 teams still going down from the 2nd division. |

From: Paul Barrett - West Cross - Tuesday, April 10 Re: Game of three quarters and some strange decisions |
|
The 3000 odd poor souls that turned up tonight will have
witnessed one of the most bizarre games in recent times, and there's
been a few under honest John's tenure. The start was interesting
enough, us latecomer's nearly missed the Wycombe opener when to
Roger's surprise, Michael Howard forgot which way he was playing and
hit a backpass more like a shot, in stepped Wycombe, 1-0.
Though not as bad as the Bournemouth game last week, the next 60 minutes or so were played in a chapel of rest style atmosphere, only to be stirred from our slumber by the introduction of Appleby and Romo, who replaced the ineffective Lacey, and (first bizarre decision) Fabiano - IMO, MoM up to that point. 5 minutes later, bizarre decision No. 2 - the introduction of Savarese. Not because he replaced the equally ineffective Watkin, but for those of us who did not hear the announcement of subs, wondered why Gio was on the bench in the first place! It was fairly apparent to us that there was no obvious sign of any injury with Gio, but the next 20 minutes were by far the best I've seen this season - and three cracking goals to boot - no doubt the video downloads will be worth waiting for, for those who miss the HTV News tomorrow. We just seemed to click and start playing as a cohesive unit, Gio's presence was an obvious injection of confidence. The bottom line in all this is that I believe that honest John has hoodwinked us all season, and now he's taking the p*#s! I think he sincerely believes that we'll win the next 7 or 8 games - on the evidence of the last 20 minutes - he's got a point. In reality, the fat lady's song was last week. I hope I'm proved to be wrong. |

2ndStats are up.
I'm not ready to get out the black crepe yet, but, oh, how a win at Bristol Rovers would have helped! http://www.sunlink.net/~scramble/2ndStats.html It's still mathematically possible even with the other bottom 7 retaining recent form. Go, you Swans! |
