Congrats to the lads on a good performance to kick off the season. It wasn't vintage stuff, but there were definitely signs that this team can gel together and start motoring.
Only a few negatives from my unaccustomed bird's nest view at the top of the East Stand. Evans didn't look comfortable in central defence, and I'd be inclined to play Sharp instead. Also, Murphy rarely got involved - his positional sense seems to be a bit lacking. He was always standing where the ball wasn't, always just in the wrong place to take a pass or make a tackle. I know Mumford was below par in the pre-season games, but surely there'll be no contest for that position when he's back on song. Also, Roger looked a bit out of touch on two or three occasions - so he's mortal after all!
Like everyone else, I was puzzled where the extra five minutes came from, but we still have the tendency to fall back and defend too deeply in that situation, which is deadly. Attack is the best form of defence. When will we learn that panicing and hoofing it blindly upfield only results in it coming back at us even quicker?
Something for the coaches to work on, but all in all, a good start, and lots of positives. Incidentally, Hull, the division favourites, also only managed a home draw.
