Re: football programmes
To all Swansea fans who collect football programmes. If you aren't aware, there is a web site where you can purchase forthcoming match programmes for the Swans or any other league club and they will deliver to your door no matter where in the world you live. It might be of interest to all you exiled Swans fans. The address is http://www.theprogramstore.com and lets all turn up in our droves on Saturday and get behind the team. All of you who visit this site try and get one of your mates to come down the Vetch for a change to boost the atmosphere even if you have to pay for them and really get behind the team and frighten the s**t out of the Peterborough side with the noise we can create.

Re: Excellent Site
Gary, you are doing a terrific job with this site! It is great to have the Gem on the Swans. The last couple of results have been a little dissapointing but the Swans should finish on top. They are having a fantastic season, way to go lads!

Re: scfc
Wouldnt it be great if the club copied the faw and reduced prices for the last 3 home games. This would gaurantee 3 sell outs. Good result against Brighton lets all get down the vetch next saturday for some more up and unders..

Re: Reports page
For anyone who has not seen them, I have to say that Dave (Bailey) Williams' photos on the reports page are pretty impressive! To photograph an Alsop goal is impressive at the best at the best of times, but in those conditions... It was a good point yesterday - well earned in the end. Next Saturday's game is now massive - let's hope there's a massive crowd getting behind them. I was just talking to a Posh fan, and he's not feeling confident. C'mon you Swans!

Re: Brighton vs Swansea
After spending 3 years at uni in Swansea it was good to hear so many familiar accents as your team coaches stopped off in Crawley on Saturday on the way down to Brighton. For the record, Crawley beat Gloucester City 2-1 and are now safe in the Dr. Martens for another season and it was good to see the Jacks getting a point though it surely should have been three. Come on Watkin and Alsop, where have the goals gone?

From Swansea City to Crawley Town, the Cardiff scum are going down.

Re: let's go for it!
As Darlington proved on Saturday, Rotherham are not unbeatable, so let us all get behind the team for the last 6 games of the season, lets finish off with six wins, and take the championship up at Rotherham in the last game.

Come on Swansea, do us fans proud!

Re: Walter Boyd
Hello to all Jacks, greetings. I would like to know what is the status on Walter Boyd. I have noticed since of late his name is not even being mentioned. Is he still a member of the team or what ? Can someone please give me a word on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, a concerned fan of his.

He's on the bench most games. If you check back over the recent match reports, you'll get a much clearer picture of how he's doing - GM

Re: Singing the Jacks on
I'm travelling down from Scotland on Thursday to see the Peterborough game and I'd appreciate if anyone could help me out with a few songs to cheer the boys to an expected victory P.S. I,m a Celtic fan and will be missing my first game since Sept '99 so I'm looking forward to some decent football for a change; watch out for the accent!

Re: "Poisondart"
Regarding Boyd, you might be interested to know that among some fans, it has been discussed to use Walter as a winger. Since you're a Boyd fan, maybe you could tell us what you know of Boyd and his previous games as left wing?

Re: Good to see
At last this guestbook is littered with encouragement rather thanmoaning and groaning! I remember getting stick off about 4 or 5 fans in November for saying that Hollins can turn it around. Admitadly it wasn't just Hollins, it was the players, all of the coaching staff and the fans with the encouraging attitude which is important to the club. We have broken several records this season and we have done it in a 3rd division that has been of quite a high standard relative to recent years. This season teams like Peterborough and Northampton have improved, even teams like Rochdale, Hartlepool and Cheltenham have put in some very good performances against top teams and proved their play off contention. Up the Swans and let's all help produce frightening atmospheres home and away for our remaining opponents starting with the so called Posh at the wekend

Re: Walter Boyd
Jannik Hansen..to answer your question. Walter Boyd has the ability to play anywhere up front. He has demonstrated some pretty good skills playing left wing for his country in the past, however I do believe playing centre forward is where Boyd truly belongs. If his team mates can get the ball to his feet in front of goal at all times then they have nothing to worry about because Boyd will put the ball where it truly belongs, in the back of the net. However the rate at which I see Swansea is using Boyd, he will never be able to prove is worth. This guy is quick on the ball and he has demonstrated his ability to kick the ball with either feet with great composure and accuracy.

Re: results going our way!!
Who would have expected Darlington to draw at home to Shrewsbury with a last minute goal*(which resulted in a pitch invasion!)2-0 down with 5 mins to go!!(sounds like our Chester game!)if we put on a good show against Peterborough on saturday(we play so much better against good opposition)get a point against Plymouth(gonna be a tough one that!!)i reckon we`ll only need 7 more points and we`re home and dry(well almost!)

I honestly belive that if/when we gain automatic promotion the boys can relax a little and put on a show(well thats the plan anyway)which would guide us smoothly towards the division 3 championship!!!have you noticed that all the promotion chasers are slipping up!!-nerves?? glad to see it`s just not us pressing the panick button!

C`mon Swansea, give us what we desperatly desire,a good run of results and to get out of this godforsaken division!!get the fans behind you and you`ll think there`s 14 playing for us!!!

Sing and scream like there`s no tommorow come saturday!!!!!!lets show them how passionate we are about our Swans, let them hear us as far away as c**dif!!!!"the jacks are going up"!!!!!!!!

Re: Morfa
By the time you read this most of you will already have seen it in the Evening Post, but the council has appointed a joint venture comprising Miller Developments and construction firm Ballast Wiltshier to build our new home. So, after all that wait it finally looks as though things are about to happen. Div 3 championship awaits and so, it would now seem, does Morfa.

Re: bringing fun back to football!!
Just read a great article in "when saturday comes"headlined hula hoops!

The gist of the article is about down and financially out Reading fans feeling depressed about their plight, staring at certain relegation and possibly bankruptsy, the fans as you can imagine were feeling a little down!!

Up step the Reading supporters internet community, get together and decide to hold a pants day(in protest of the players not trying hard enough!)they all brought an old pair of underpants and waved them/threw them around during the game!!-lot of fun, so they organise different theme`s to most games, hawaian shirts, shades and beach music was the theme at Bournmouth to out--seaside the seasiders!!!

The result has been increased attendances, more boystrous support, and can you belive better results, now some of this may sound coincidental but it sure as hell sounds like fun to me!!!!!

The ideas are posted ie, by regular fans via unnofficial web sites in competition style!!gets everyone thinking about having fun at the game (instead of boring anti Cardif songs)!!!obviously we`re not in their position of relegation and finnancial plight, but i for one think it`s a great idea to bring a lot of fun to some of those drab saturday afternoon encounters!!you see Mr Lewis how internet supporters can have a possitive influence on a club!!!!!

Re: Posh press
two extracts from today's Peterborough Evening Telegraph match report, written, ironically, by Alan Swann:

"Swansea's Vetch Field is an intimidating place full of Welshmen fat enough to be contenders for their national rugby team who all appear to have an in-bred dislike of of all things English, particularly so it seems football teams managed by extroverts."

"Swansea are a one-dimensional side who are close to muscling their way out of the third division. They boast a battering ram at centre forward with just three goals to his name all season, a couple of strong running midfielders, but a back four who all feast on four shredded as a pre match meal."

My reply to Mr Nigel Thornton, Acting editor, is below:

"Dear Mr Thornton (Acting editor, Peterborough Evening Telegraph)

I am writing to object to the nature of the alleged "match report" on the Swansea v Peterborough game, printed in today's ET. Why does Mr Swann consider it necessary to print offensive and puerile rubbish in the vein of "fat Welshmen" when writing about a football match. My wife and I attend around 30 soccer matches a season, and It is bad enough putting up with abusive and aggressive supporters, on both sides, without irresponsible journalists adding fuel to the fire.

As for his "in-bred dislike of everything English", every soccer club has its "supporters" who shout abuse at the opposition fans - each time we support Swansea away we have to put up with the "Sheepshaggers" taunt, which we hear every time we visit London Road. Mr Swann, are we to put that down to an "in bred dislike of everything Welsh?", or are your ears closed to the excesses of your own Posh fans?

The Swansea fans also apparently have a dislike of Mr Fry. I well recall on 3rd January that it was Peterborough's own supporters who were resoundingly calling for the head of Mr Fry, even when two goals ahead. Once again, a somewhat narrow perspective from Mr Swann. He refers to Swansea as a "one dimensional side", which is based on how many Swansea games attended this year - one or two? And gives no credit to the Swansea defence which boasts the best record in British football. Perhaps he should confine his comments to the team which he watches regularly, and remember that not all ET readers are Posh fans.

Regards - Peter Charles (Peterborough Swan)

PS Mr Thornton - you may be interested to know that I have copied the relevant section of the article to the unofficial Swansea City website, which, incidentally, includes very objective and inoffensive reports on both Swans v Posh games this year. As a Peterborough resident Welshman, who is rightly offended, I do hope that you will afford me the courtesy of a reply."

Re: Hollins for life???????
Now whilst hollins may have warmed to the swansea supporters, since the team put together a great record breaking run, which has given us a great chance of promotion this year, i can`t help thinking that it`s too early for such a long term commitment without testing the division two waters!!(assuming we get there!)

His ability to negotiate good players at reasonable wages is questionable (with the exception of walter, who he never plays!) also his team tactics can be alarming, especially when the obvious is there for all to see!!! ie, small defense=tall striker and vice versa!! bad weather, play on the ground (for the first time this season!) good surface, hoist it up to big jules!!

Now i`m not meaning to bash JH, he does have good points too!,*he must be one hell of a motivater to get this lot into the position we`re in!! can`t imagine cork/adams achieving this amount of success with these players!!!

he also knows how to dig deep when backs are against the wall, the owners love him to bits - thats quite obvious!! and they have confidence in him, so thats good, but he`s still got a hell of a lot of work to do before i`d commit to him for life!!

saying that i hope he does go on to bring us much success and glory nights in the future,he could start by getting the team to understand the logistics of winning games. (goals=chance of winning, more goals=better chance of winning, and so on!)

8 more points, lets do it in style, good luck john, keep this defense together (or we`re screwed next year!)

Re: Martin Thomas
I'm just back from my first visit to the Vetch for the Peterborough game and although I didn't see any goals I thought we were hard done by the press, a good game..disappointing result. Anyway just dropping a line to see if "Thommo" would be available for transfer to Celtic as God knows we need a midfielder with heart at the moment and from the 45 he put in, he certainly knows what it's like to play for the jersey. All the best to City, loved the chants, loved the North Bank even more-any chance of taking it to the Morfa with us?? P.S. Hope you don't mind the above but I love the Jacks as much as theBhoys

Re: Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Pleased to announce that after my message of earlier in the week, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph yesterday published a full page spread on the responses which it received to the match report. The article apologised for any offence caused, but also suggested that we took the comments too seriously. They stated they had been inundated with emails and letters about the offending match report (some too offensive to print!) They did print five letters, including one from Keith Haynes and an edited version of my email. A pity that they had cause to do this, but credit is due for publishing the response. Somehow I think Mr Swann will be rather more circumspect next time he reports on a game featuring a Welsh team! Anyway, we're off to Plymouth tomorrow - no doubt see many of you there.
From: Keith Haynes - Gloucester - Saturday, April 15
Re: Lets all laugh at Wales !
Credit where it's due, The Peterborough newspaper has at least acknowledged the fact that they " maybe " stereotyped Wales and it's folk without thinking. I suppose by responding we leave ourselves wide open for a local backlash from Peterborough supporters next week !

But to say that we took the comments " Too seriuosly " yet again shows the ignorance that infests certain parts of this country ( UK ) and further afield when dealing with immotive " Racist " issues.

The big question is - Would they attack say " The black community " if dealing with a similar subject ? The answer is NO. And rightly so. So why are the sheep loving, fat, aggressive, stereotyped Welsh treated differently ?

Maybe our dealings of English things is as much to blame as anything, we have all fallen in to this trap. Those Jacks that are Welsh do, those that are of other origins probably just smile, or privately boil!

This newspaper has fallen in to that trap, the fact that racism against the countries that make up the UK is hardly noted is no excuse. They stereotyped Wales in an ugly way, and the responses they got were justified.

Racism has no colour, as many are finding out. Including the ill thought out Sports Department of a local newspaper which in future would do well to " think before it prints " or find staff that can.

Mr Swann, you are a disgrace - And typify the phrase " Institutionalised RACIST " Look it up, your fellow journo's have written about it enough with regards to other walks of life, and in most cases wrongly. How does it sound ?

I hope the cap you are wearing today fits perfectly.

Re: plymouth
It's all getting abit iffy after todays result! Let's not pretend that the pressure is not getting to us - we are positively engulfed in the stuff.

No words please John about how this result will only spur us on - save your breathe for abit of geeing up instead.

6 points from our next 3 games should see us through - lets not leave it to the rotherham game.

Come on lads don't throw it all away now. It hasn't been pretty, stylish or for that matter very entertaining but we are up there. I could not handle the payoffs again and certainly do not relish another season in this sh*tty league. Come to that I think Ninth Floor will be bailing out if we do not get up this time which will leave us with nothing.

COME ON!

From: Phil Sumbler - Swansea - Sunday, April 16
Re: Not Good
Plymouth was not good for several reasons.

1. Again we failed to score.
2. The behaviour from some of the people that travelled
3. We never looked likely to score
4. We had one meaningful chance

We are shaking big time now. Northampton have won twice away this week and are now 5 points behind, Peterborough will be 4 if they win their game in hand.

Hollins, sort it out - the play-offs will mean another season down here.

C'mon boys - three weeks ago we had it in our pocket don't blow it - it will shatter you.

Re: True form?
Is it just me moaning or are the Swans finally realising their true form and potential? To be fair they started the season as mid-table candidates and have played like that for most of the season. Looking at the way they have performed, with the exception of Halifax(H) and Peterborough(A), they have rarely entertained or excited the crowd.

During their "lucky" nine straight wins, many were dire to watch and too close for comfort. I think that the "one point closer to promotion" attitude Hollins and Captain Chronic are promoting is a negative one. Surely, now they have got to such a position in the league, the next step would be to go for the title? It was in sight a few weeks ago and i'm sure the players realised that.

Yesterday at Plymouth Boyd came on for Coates towards the end, Coates has had a very indifferent season and it can't hurt to play Boyd more in these last remaining games.Lets face it, Coates couldn't go past a geriatric with a zimma frame and the amount of goals Jules has scored this season proves this.

Tell me if i'm wrong but i think Boyds contract was only until the end of the seson so why not play him more? It is going to be a very dismal season next year if we struggle to put the ball in the back of the net this year.Lets hope John can capture a few more of those great League of Wales players!!!

From: spur - Jamdown - Sunday, April 16
Re: Hollins should where the dunce cap
It is evident that the "astute" Mr Hollins is not aware of the striker rotation system that takes place at Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. It is quite clear that he is willing to make Boyd rot on the bench while his team's chance of automatic promotion slip by . He is riding on luck but it will run out sometime. Your strikers aren't scoring, Play Boyd more, hollins.
From: Julian Evans - Wimbledon - Monday, April 17
Re: The Jitters!!
Well..... who said we were guarenteed direct promotion, let alone promotion via the playoffs? Now we look rather agonisingly over our shoulders at yes.. Northampton, who could yet defy us at the last minute. Remember Wembley?? I'd like to say we have a comfortable 5 pts cushion, but this was 10pts only a week or so ago. Anyway I'm sure JH (maybe this is asking a bit much!!!!) has rallied the team for what looks like being an interesting last 4 matches. If I'm really honest I expect (hope in vain!!) that the Swans will beat both Torquay & Exeter, which will see us up. Another team that may threaten us is Peterborough - who knows?

Anyway, my personal opinion having seen us a few times this season is how poor the 3rd Division is. There appears to already be a gulf between 2nd and 3rd - rather worrying if we play at the higher level next season. Who knows what the end of the season will bring? Football is a very funny game! Good Luck Swans.

Re: Current state of play
I'm sure i'm not alone in suffering the agonies of the past few weeks and the truly abysmal performances of our beloved team, however, it would appear to even the most blinkered supporter that Mr.Hollins usual style of management, that of giving even the most lowly of teams far too much respect, has backfired with a vengeance!

Although I count myself as one of the many who dislike the likes of Man Utd. mainly for the arrogant way they dismissed the F.A.Cup, when you look at the reaction of one of their players recently, after putting a 'shedful' of goals past the West Ham stand-in keeper. When asked if he felt any sympathy for the poor sod said "No, not really. We missed a load more chances, and should have gone past 10!"

To be honest, there are teams played in recent weeks who should have been 'stepped on' as we headed for the title, but instead we've capitulated to them like the wimps we are. And, as most people heve their own favourite players/team here's my 'sixpennyworth'.

Coates is a luxury we can't possibly afford, as he loses/gives away over half the balls he gets. If we're going to get some goals in the last four games, we must supply decent balls to the front players, so I would go with Casey on the left wing (from the start), and Roberts on the right wing. (presuming he is still a club member).

From: Big R - home - Tuesday, April 18
Re: goals
At the moment we are in a desparate situation. We need goals more than anything. The only way to achive this in my opinion is to revert back to the 433 formation. During that amazing run we had at the begining of the season many of the games were played with that formation. If we dont score then we cant win. Thats the way it works.

The ideal formation for me would be Bound + smith + howard + price at the back. Then cusack + coates + Thomas in midfield. then up front we would have he ultimate scoring team. Boyd + Alsop + Watkin (I was joking about the ultimate scoring team bit)This would hopefully result in More goals being scored. also as an extra touch Coates and Boyd should be pushed as wide players to give us that extra width that was missing when we previously played that formation.

I know everyone has their own opinion but I don't know how BIG R can even think anout dropping Steve Jones at right back!! Steve's been one of the only players managing to look good at the moment saving uor team on a number of times with last ditch defending. Here's what my tam would be

GK - Rog of course!
RB - Steve Jones - deserves as much acclaim as Smudger and Boundy!
LB - Howard - Not too sure here, I think coatsy could do a job at LB
CB - Smith - Need you ask!
CB - Bound (c)- Born leader
CM - Thomas - commited, can tackle and id useful in attack
CM - Lacey - Gutted he got injured, I felt he was beginning to show his potential and let's face it Cusack is shit!
RM - Stu Rob - Always gives 100%, pace is electric, quite a good crosser too!
LM - Walter - Can always beat a man, cut inside, and support the front line. He beat's people every week when he drops back but nothing comes of it. If he beats them on the wing he'd be able to either supply a deadly cross or cut in and score.
CF - Alsop - Wins everything in the air, put obviously not a born goalscorer
CF - Watkin - Hold up the ball well, but yet again not a born goalscorer.

Played off the park?
Which game did you watch?
From what I remember of the game, it was one of the worst matches I have ever had the (mis)privilege to watch. We were very bad and you were much the same. You won 1-0 thanks to a cock up from Jason Price(?) and from what I remember Swansea were heartily booed off the pitch by a very large travelling (and pissed) support. You can bring your 50 fans down on Saturday and you may beat us but how I would love to wipe that smug look off your face with a 5-0 win (when did we last score 5 in the league? for trivia buffs)

Re: Promo
Last nights result has turned the heat up. Peterboro have the easiest run in left and I feel we need at least 6 points to stay above them. N'ton have a pretty easy one as well. Rotherham and darlington have hard fixtures and perhaps if we are to stay in top three it will be at the expense of Darlo. Hindsight is a wonderful thing ( although we were all shouting it at the time)Northampton bought in Jamie Forrester to strengthen their bid, Peterboro kept Jason Lee to helps theirs ( amongst others)and we did diddly.
I hope this does not come back to haunt you John but if we do not go up automatically ( we would not win through the playoffs as we would not beat any of the teams over 2 legs as we can't score)then a contract for life will not be forthcoming as expressed by our great leaders but perhaps a P45! Lets pray that the team gets back to winning ways - nothing short of a win on saturday will be good enough. It is now a massive game and I hope that we have a big crowd to push us on.

Re: promotion
If I remember rightly, the last time Swansea scored five goals (or more) in the league was against Bradford at Valley Parade when we won 6-4. With regards to promotion, wins aginst Torquay and Exeter are a must. Peterborough have an easy run in, although Northamton's could be quite tough, especially with their trip to Chester.
Anyway, Darlington seem to be slipping up as much as us, so we should be able to get 1 of the three automatic promotion spots.
With regards to Saturday, if we do win, we could find ourselves top with 3 games left, which would give a huge psychological boost to our players and supporters, whilst easing the pressure and hopefully putting an end to our miserable run of results. If we do go up, we will be the worst team EVER to get promotion.

Re: Swans
I think the problem with our team is that there is no competition for places at all in our team. There is no cover for our defence at all. Ok maybe O'Leary could come in an fill a gap but I think that's all. In midfield there is a little competition on the flanks but not a very healthy one. Appleby, Coates, or Price?? None Please! Stu Rob needs to have a run in the team and I think Casey deserves a chance on the left wing.
And as for Cusack there's no wonder he's is shitting out of tackles because he knows that there is nobody to replace him in the team now that Lacey is injured. Hollins isn't goin to play Jenkins in the centre of the park is he.
And then there's the strikefirce!!! There's a laugh for you. Were playing two strikers who just can't score and make things happen. Forrester and Corrazin are proper strikers, I've been really impressed by them this season.
So Hollins please make some signings over the summer months! Midfielders and strikers are a must! And send Boundy to a training camp where they teach defenders to do something with the ball instead of hoofing it up the park!!!!

Re: Raising your game
Hollins was quoted in the evening post as saying " Teams have been raising their game against us of late because we are up the top". He has kept using this excuse when we had disappointing results against shrewsbury, orient, carlise etc. Can someone tell me then if this is true why don't Watford, Bradford etc get results at old Trafford?
They get trounced like bad teams should do when going to teams at the top of the league.
Tame excuse John.

Re: Run in
With regards to easy run-ins and the like there is no such thing. Every team beat's everybody else on their day in this division and having seen Brighton a few times this season on their pitch Peterborough will not get three points there. Now that the heat is on with Peterborough and Northampton being only 4 and 5 points behind respectively perhaps we will now start to win.
Its still in our hands and 2 more wins should do it as the other two would then need 3 wins and a draw and 4 wins respectively to beat us.
Lets hope the first of those wins is Torquay and see you all there

Re: Run in
We goin nowhere if we keep playing like we are. We got to kill off Torquay tommorow or risk another season in this shocking division. I DONT WANT TO BE PLAYING CARDIFF IN THIS DIVISION NEXT YEAR, I WANT TO BE LAUGHING AT THEM FROM DIVISION 2. So up the jacks and all get your asses to Mansfield on monday.

Re: The picture that shames our club
This picture was taken from last weekend's Plymouth Independent, and is a worrying example of the sinister rise of extremist right wing elements at Swansea City. I have forwarded a copy to the club and hope that they can go further than mere bland platitudes in eradicating the racist filth that constantly soils this football club.

Black Swan magazine will do its utmost to highlight this disturbing trend, and will be contacting the Commission for Racial Equality and Football Supporters Association to see what policies can be adopted to ensure that the Vetch Field and Swansea away games are safe places for ethnic minorities to enjoy football free from fear and harassment.

Re: Announcement
This is to announce that I have stepped down as editor of 'Black Swan' magazine with immediate effect.

At the risk of airing dirty washing it was felt that my personal crusade against racism at Swansea (see today's EP and 'Welsh Mirror') and football in general compromised the future of the magazine. I personally don't agree; a line has to be drawn somewhere to prevent the sort of bigoted intolerant filth that plagues this club (and others). Politics plays a part in all walks of life whether you like it or not, and I'm proud to have edited a magazine that has fought against racism, lies and the corporate rape of the game I love.

All future correspondence concerning the magazine should still be directed to the contact addresses on the magazine. I will keep the e-mail address open until the season ends.

I would like to thank all those who supported the magazine both morally and financially, and those on the Black Swan team who helped to get this project off the ground. I would also like to wish them the best for the future of the magazine.

Re: swans score 5! (every 10 years)
i think i'm right in saying that since that magic day when we beat leeds 5-1 back in 1981 we have only scored 5 at home in the league on 1 occcasion and that was 5-0 against rotherham on new year's day 1991. so that's just 2 five goal hauls in the league at the vetch in 20 years. i thought every team dished out at least one hammering each season. oh no! not the swans. does bob latchford still play anyone?

Re: Surprise!
Another day of surprises. First win in can't remember how many games and we end up top the league! Its still going to go down to the final game at Rotherham with both Peterborough and Northampton finding their form at just the right time. Don't be surprised to see either or both in the top three, along with the Jacks who, providing they can find 4 points from their final three games should be home and dry. I can guarantee it won't be without its moments so hold tight !

Still cannot work out what JH is thinking about with his starting line up. Thank the stars Alsop didn't last until half time and Watkin came on to partner Boyd (best game for ages). Divine intervention from above when he saw Steve on the bench ? Final three games has got to be Steve and Walter up front - PLEASE!

Pat on the back also to Price who's been out of sort in last few games - took his goal well. As usual the back four (and big Rog, thank God) had to have a tantrum and ask to play their part again in the last 10 mins - can't they settle for winning by more than a 1 goal margin or something?

Roll on Rotherham. I'd like to think it would be all over sooner but somehow I don't think so !!

Re: torquay
Good result - solid performance v torquay. Price gave his his best game of the season, boyd won a header and played a part in both goals, thomas and cusack solid, even coates played well. if we play like that on monday promotion seems assured. next season remains a problem - a new striker and central midlfielder or else we'll be straight back down.

here's to the promotion party

Re: Bound
Gary, your comment regarding Bound, "will be missed next season". Surely common sense will prevail and IF we get promotion they give him the contract he deserves. He will be needed in the second division so surely the powers that be at Swansea will keep him !!!

Or do you definately know something that we don't?

I was talking to someone from inside the club and they said that all paries are confident that the club and Boundy can agree a new contract. Good win today, wish I could have been there. A win on Saturday and then roll on the championship against Rotherham (unless they lose while we win saturday). Promotion must surely be a certainty and the championship a very strong possibility!!!! Re: Welsh FA Shambles
Having spent all day trying to get through to Ticketline in C*****f for tickets for Wales' next month friendly against Brazil, I've just been told they have all been sold out. This was despite getting through first thing only to be told they were having problems with credit card transactions and to ring back later once everything was sorted. As a result of this shambles I now have two very miffed kids moping about the house. Another FAW related mess I'm afraid and, surprise, surprise no one at home in the FAW offices to answer the phone !!

If anyone knows of 3 tickets going spare please come back to me on Dave_Dalton@breathemail.net

This shambles promped me to ring the Vetch just to make sure Saturday's game wasn't all ticket and they confirmed it definately isn't - just get there early ! Here's to the promotion party on Saturday. Good luck and good riddance to this rubbish 3rd Division. We'll all wave to C*****f on the way up as they disappear in the opposite direction!

Re: Black Swan
Lots of unanswered questions. What is to become of Black Swan now that Tom has decided to step down? Will it survive? Who will take up its stewardship? And why has Tom decided to step down?

I for one think the mag is a great success and look forward to future issues. I agree with Tom, life is political and if Tom and Black Swan can be influential in making even a little difference to those who harbour racist attitudes then we will all be better off.

On Saturday I stood next to my best mate on the NB, nothing unusual about that, but it struck me how racist some of his comments were - mainly directed at Walter. Now if someone as normal and otherwise agreeable as my friend can go to a match and spout such casual racist garbage, what hope is there for any youngsters that are around listening.

I constantly berate my mate for the use of such inflamatory language but he just denies he is racist in his outlook - he just can't see it.

Tom, I've never met you but I totally agree with your sentiments on this subject and if racism is a problem (I think it is) among supporters of the club then what better vehicle for tackling it than Black Swan?

It is my opinion that BS should be proactive on all issues affecting the club and the fans - this is no different. Well done to John and the boys for what looks like certain automatic promotion - be nice to do it with a flourish though wouldn't it? The 'Tom Back' campaign starts here.

Re: Antony Thomas/Black Swan
For what it's worth, Antony, I believe you're right; if we ignore politics, we ignore the framework of our supposedly civilised society. I admired and respected your stance on the cancer of racism and intolerance within the Club's support, and for my money, the Black Swan will be poorer without you. All the best.

Re: Greek talk
As a life-long Swansea supporter, I am tonight breathing a sigh of relief and now looking forward to the promotion/championship party.

Currently living in Greece, I have not been able to get down the Vetch on a regular basis but have been monitoring the Swans progress. I did get down the Vetch in September to witness an humiliating defeat against Barnet. I thought the Swans had played well that day and deserved a win.

My relatives in Swansea at the time warned me to stay away as they said I had brought bad luck with me. I must admit that I had felt like I had played a part in destroying the fortunes of a promotion destined side.Looking back on that game I now believe that it taught the side an important lesson in discipline and after the dismal few games that followed things really started to change.

The only other game I've seen this season was the Northampton encounter, broadcast live on Sky, which my father mailed over to me. Great result and even better vocal support but the perfomance wasn't too impressive, was it? Again things started too go wrong and I believe we only recorded a win, since that game, against Torquay on Saturday. So I don't mind not seeing the Swans in the flesh or on the box, just as long as they keep winning and go up as champions!!

By the way the Greeks still recall the infamous Swansea V Panathanikos match in the Cup Winners Cup a few years ago. Does anybody remember what really kicked off the trouble that day?

Re: John Hughes
Derek from Paisley asked when John Hughes played for the Swans. He signed in 1989 at the same time as Keith Walker and Paul Chalmers, both from St Mirren(although being a Paisley boy you'll probably already know that). He was actually a striker in those days (well, allegedly) and didn't do a great deal in his time with the Swans which amounted to about a couple of sesaons. I do remember seeing him come off the bench to score in a 2-1 defeat at Notts County in about 1990/91.

Did any-one else present at Monday's latest triumph notice Walter trudge off to the dressing room on his own? The rest of the boys came over and acknowledged & celebrated with us.The impression is that his heart is certainly not at this club and as soon as his contract is up he cannot wait to get away..which is I suppose a pity.

Roll on Saturday, and if the Gods are with us again (as they have been most of the season) then we will win and Rotherham will slip up and lose at Hartlepool...and we will be champeeeeeeeens!!! Mouth watering stuff.

Re: John Hughes
Johnny Hughes may not have set the world alight during his time at the Vetch but he did score at Ninian in a 2-0 win over the Blue scum in the early 90's. In fact his goal came only about 5 mins into the game. Bryan Wade scored the 2nd late in the game , Curt was back playing for the Swans and we wore horrible yellow shirts. Sadly I can confirm all this because I have the CCFC club video at home !!

Re: John "Yogi" Hughes
First and foremost - great to see the Swans back on top and promoted. Hopefully now the boys can keep their nerve and take the title.

Out of curiosity, I thought I would post a message and see if any Swans fans remember any amusing wee stories regarding former player John "Yogi" Hughes, who joined the club from Berwick in the dim and distant past.

Yogi is now captain of the mighty Hibs in the Scottish Premier, but close to being put out to grass. Still a great character though.

Finally, can I give a big shout to Chippie, who I know will be skiving work, reading the Guestbook and getting paid for it... disgraceful behaviour!

Re: Black Swan
Karl (April 25th) is absolutely right both in backing Anthony Thomas on his stance on racism and in suggesting that it is a problem among Swans supporters.

Last year's Leicester University fan survey, covering 24 Nationwide League clubs, found Swans fans were far likelier than those of any club to report having seen racist behaviour at matches. This may of course be sensitivity about those imaginative 'sheepshagger' chants beloved of the dimmer English fans but last season's game at home to Plymouth, the play-off at Scunthorpe and this year's visit to Southend strongly suggest not.

If this isn't a serious issue for a fanzine, I don't know what is.

Re: Purchases
I reckon Hollins should go in for Gary Alexander of West Ham as his first purchase for next season. He's currently on loan at Exeter(so you'll all be able to see him first hand tomorrow) and has scored 18 goals in a struggling team. He's only 20 and has a bright future ahead of him. He's valued at £250k.

Re: At last, a great day for all
At last we're taking the easy route to the 2nd Division although the last quarter of the season we've been nervous and jittery and made it difficult for ourselves. On form of late we should be able to force the draw at Rotherham and are well capable of winning. There is no pressure now and I hope the team finish the job and win the Division 3 title.

I'm also pleased that John Hollins is still in charge and hasn't followed others in being replaced so early into their managerial contract like many others have before him. I don't believe it is possible for any manager to start with a club and be succesful so soon. To get to know the history of the club, the fans the players personalities, the overall running of the club , it's structure and youth policy, all in all everything about the club takes a hell of a long time. You have to be able to have the answer to everyones problem as the manager and if you don't then more often than not it's then end of the road. So I'm glad McClure and the gang have kept faith and are sticking with Hollins and the longer he stays the better for the club as long as he has the backing to strengthen the squad for next season. Some of the greatest managers have taken a number of years to get where they are today just like Alex Fergusson did when he started at Man U (not that we'll ever be whe! re they are now). So I hope Hollins has the ability and the backing to take us even further than the second division and establish this club as at the worst a good first division side because that's where we at least deserve to be.

Congratulations to the team, management and all the backroom staff right down to the people behind the schools policy. Big cheer for Alan Curtis too who has his heart firmly in place at this club.
